Thief Thief are an instrumental duo straddling Boston and New York City.

Jeff Johnson plays guitar. He creates melodies, then harmonizes with himself by applying an atypical, both-hands-tapping guitar style. He runs these sounds through two amps and zero looping pedals.
Colin Snyder plays drums. His style has been called, “bombastic… like Lightning Bolt getting buried alive by an avalanche of prog records.”

The twosome first met in the fall of 2005 while working at a video game company in Boston and iterated over a few different compositional approaches before settling on the sound that fills their debut album Coffee Palm, recorded in 2010 at Machines with Magnets of Pawtucket, Rhode Island (Battles, Fang Island, Big Bear). Their aggressively cute, progressively tinged music draws from the same creative well as other mathy experimenters the likes of Russian Circles, Maps & Atlases and Piglet (The Boston Phoenix described it as, “a slightly more even-keeled Marnie Stern or Hella”). 

Thief Thief will undoubtedly click with a wide range of ears. Look for the duo on all kinds of bills in 2012.
