Hi I'm Mike. I like helping artists around a new release or tour. And putting on shows from time to time. And posting stuff. Ask me everything.

"This track is comfortable in its own skin - heck, it’s practically cheery in a slightly demented way, all of the trappings of what one might consider your classic rock track are here - distorted guitars, even a distorted bass color the walls, with the dirty tonewheels of an overdriven organ sawing through the air and creating all kinds of delicious frequencies in the mix. The rhythm sort of lurches this way and that on occasion, sort of like Godzilla in mid-step, considering which building to destroy next."
"Just in time for summer, Boston’s Big Big Bucks (we’re guessing one ‘big’ just wasn’t enough to emphasize the enormity of their bright power-pop sound) bring us ‘Endless Bummer,’ a vivacious two-sided digital single replete with punchy hooks, local references (to ‘smoking behind the Middle East’), and cover art purloined from the Beach Boys’ ‘Endless Summer’ greatest hits album."
"Say you got this big job interview one day, and that morning some random film crew crashed your apartment and recorded every move you made: from waking up late, to showering, to getting dressed, to mindlessly eating breakfast in your still-wrinkled Urban Renewal-bought suit, to walking (confidently!) out the front door and into the world. The footage then gets edited down to about three minutes, and The Big Big Bucks’ ‘Kick Rocks’ — a reverby, distorted, early-’90s alt-rock jangle-romp — plays in the background."

"‘Kick Rocks’ is a prideful manifesto of a smart drunk, something often difficult to find in Boston (re: night of the Bruins win). The singing, not yelling, makes singer Joey McHugh’s advice to keep your phone and keys in your shoes in the corner of the room seem innocently helpful rather than didactic."

The Big Big Bucks “Kick Rocks”

I’m pleased be working with The Big Big Bucks, one of my favorite rock and roll bands in Boston.

Earlier this year, Chris Basso (guitar), Ian Gustafson (keys/guitar/vox), Joey McHugh (vox/bass), and Mike Tucker (drums) recorded six new tracks in Watertown. The music retains a burly-pop aesthetic found on last year’s Crucial Schmooze LP, and the lyrics are still sharp with tales of a failed band relocation to Maine (“Probable Slob”), begging girlfriends to stick around til records start selling (“Decent Dinner”), and more buckshit©.

“Kick Rocks” is the first song to emerge from those recordings, and Impose Magazine just premiered it. It’s part of the Endless Bummer single, available July 24th, 2011 on their bandcamp page. Of course the album art is going to reference The Beach Boys. Paired with “Kick Rocks” is “Tipp City”, written by The Amps, recorded by The Bucks during Crucial Schmooze and nearly left to die in the cold.

We’ll be announcing some upcoming Endless Bummer release/funeral shows for July, but in the meantime you can catch the quartet at Bozmo’s album release party on June 27th at O’Briens.

In other Bucks news, their bandcamp page has been given a nice overhaul with a full stream of Crucial Schmooze, and low low prices for the LP and the Be a Baby 7”. More to come by these guys.
