Earthquake Party! “Pretty Little Hand”

On Friday, Earthquake Party! went over to Loroto HQ with all of their gear, drank some beers and shot their first music video. By Monday it was edited and yesterday Liz Pelly premiered the thing on Boston Phoenix’s blog On The Download. Good week. Director Addison Post on the video:

A deliberate portrayal of how Justin, Mallory, and J-Raff interact with their instruments, and an unrelenting loud image reacting to the vibrations. We shot 24 takes, I’m still in complete awe that anyone can last that long with consistent energy. They are amazing artists—loud, vital, hypnotized by their own music.

EqP! play Brooklyn’s Public Assembly on June 6th alongside old pals Little Racer and new pals Grand Resort.

"95bFM have been playing Boston’s Earthquake Party’s ‘Pretty Little Hand’ quite a bit lately – it’s a thrashy, skuzzy little brat of a song – Cheese on Toast freaking loves the shit out of it, too. The other tracks are both equally great – ‘Nails&Hammers’ is an epic 49 seconds long; with a crazy ‘I’ve turned the direct-drive turntable off’ stop – I love how it thrashes its boy/girl vox like an over-eager puppy with a teddy bear. While other b-side ‘Brains’ just thuds like a really good hangover. In a good way. Anyway – don’t just take our words for it – listen / download for yourself."
"It felt lucky that Earthquake Party’s high-energy set of punky pop songs wasn’t happening until nearly 3 am — had it been earlier, the place would have been uncomfortably packed, for sure."

"Despite it being a small offering, it’s the overall quality of the music that steals the show here. Each song sounds highly concentrated and as dense as can be, serving up a bruising yet friendly pummel through the five minute duration."

"‘All I want is a pretty little hand that’s filled with pills and candy’ cantano gli Earthquake Party nella canzone che apre VS. Pizza, la loro cassetta di debutto. E nonostante il pezzo non superi i due minuti, il verso viene ripetuta allo sfinimento, ti si pianta in testa e non puoi farci più niente."
"…one thing that has jazzed us to no end over the last two months is the debut release from Boston’s deservedly hyped Earthquake Party!"
"The melody they somehow describe between them is richer and deeper than the one either of them sings. And bonus points for the pithy lyrics they sing, full of both mystery and implication: ‘All I want’s a pretty little hand/That’s full of pills and candy.’ I like how, in the end, this song feels like pop, despite all the fuss and noise. It’s amazing what a good chorus can do for you."
"I think the chorus is my favorite part – the boy/girl harmony is a vibrant chunk of clarity over the mass of chunky fuzz. The song is going to be released on a new three-track cassette called vs. Pizza… Word is they’re touring come spring, so we’ll be sure to let you know about that."
