MINIBOONE: NOW WITH VAN

When Brooklyn’s MiniBoone came to Boston last April, they arrived in the above: a 1992 Pontiac Grand Prix. I was obviously thrilled to hear the quintet purchased a van before their two upcoming weeklong tours. I asked drummer Taylor Gabriels a few questions today on their way up to Portsmouth NH for a radio performance on WSCA and a show at The Red Door:

So what’s the model?

It’s a 1999 Chevy Express 1500.

How’d you get it? Who is the prior owner?

A guy named Schlomo was the owner; James found him on Craigslist after a few weeks of searching around and looking up insurance rates. He went up to Queens, checked it out, came back and said it was “the one”.

When we went up to buy it, Schlomo took the plates so Craig and James went to the DMV and I was left to look after the van in a crummy parking lot. The last thing Schlomo told me was, “If anyone starts asking you questions, just say you know Schlomo.”

Did anyone start asking you questions?

No, I took a nap in the thing for a few hours and then Craig and James came back with a turkey sandwich for me.

What’s the best feature?

Someone before us installed a police-grade alarm system in it. It’s tied to a siren that is fucking loud. We also have an electronic key that will supposedly blink wildly if anyone breaks in. We have a TV and VCR that don’t work quite yet… Craig is obsessed with getting an N64 hooked up too.

Does it have a name yet?

Nope, but we’ve only been on the road with it for a few days. Suggestions are welcome.

Can you take a photo for me?
