Don’t let the picture fool you: Thick Shakes are all up in your grill. Since their debut cassette Ooh, Mommy!, they’ve acquired a farfisa, and while it was included on a few songs from that release, it’s welcome with open arms on their newest 7” titled Why Buy the Cow. The three songs are done in seven minutes, each one faster than the last, and the organ falls into the mix like a glove. Which is then promptly slapped across your face. Thick Shakes play Saturday night at Church in Boston with one of the best lineups the venue has seen in a minute, including Lyres, Major Stars, and MMOSS.
