download ZIP of all 11 MP3sBoston trio Hats and Glasses covered a lot of ground in their short existence as a band, and I am eternally grateful that Andy and Jen from Band in Boston Podcast were able to capture the band playing songs from their self-titled EP and some other songs that never made it into the studio. Songwriting and lead vocals were shared between guitarist Tommy and drummer/keyboardist Elliott, giving bassist Supriya’s unique fuzzy low-end clearance to jump to the melodic forefront a lot. This is demented pop music, not because of volume, but because of the sonic placement and roles of each instrument. It’s been a few years since the band’s unfortunate demise and I still have a tough time generating bands of comparison, but also know they could make a fan out of punks, yuppies, my parents, etc.If you’re into this, consider getting their flawless self-titled EP from Amie Street for $2.06, and checking out some of their new projects like Baby Driver, Beach Hair, or The Needy Visions. And obviously check out Band in Boston Podcast and their Flophouse Sessions, such a great local blog.
