Pretty & Nice are on the cusp of releasing the long-awaited followup to their 2008 LP on Hardly Art, Get Young. That album was a half-hour of exuberant twists and turns, and the Boston quartet’s songwriting has only become more focused and genuine since then. Take “Yonkers” for a ride, part of their Black Bell-released Fantastic Artifact 7”, the first exciting hint at what’s to come. Get joyous.

MiniBoone are up from NYC and playing Great Scott for the first time since last year with local loves Bozmo. They have a new EP to share with everyone, titled On MiniBoone Mountain, which stretches the definition of the quintet even further. Post-punk-pop says hello to African highlife guitars and New Orleans marching band drums on “Brand New Thing”, all done with the largest of smiles.

Earthquake Party! have won the hearts of many locals including the Boston Phoenix who named them Best Band in Massachusetts. They’ve brought their energetic live show to stages in support of Times New Viking, Handsome Furs, Smith Westerns, and more. And now they’re ready for their close-up: the trio is self-releasing their first three songs as vs. Pizza on cassette tonight. Give A-Side “Pretty Little Hand” a spin below.

The Clippers spent their summer vacation on a national tour with pals Sneeeze. They’re a Boston-breed that takes a lot from punk music, but certainly not the simple verse/chorus structures. Songs are loaded with ideas and then distilled down to razor-sharp compositions. Check out their December 2010-released An Evening With The Clippers, which will fill up your evening if your evening brief and a blast.
