PPALMM self-released Cal-Aesthetics in March, an album that successfully blurs the dancefloor with the bedroom. Four-on-the-floor kicks mingle with icy soundscapes; it’s a unexpected border to walk (kind of like those combo KFC/Taco Bells except it works). Take a listen the album and a song included on Salad Fork’s Mixtape for Haiti at his bandcamp page and pick up a tape at the show if you’re into it… limited to 50!

“Autumn Spirit” MP3
Birthdays has been touring all summer, introducing America to his dizzy beats. Impose Magazine took note, releasing the Hawaiian Punch Wave EP on their cassette label. It’s a little dark, but mostly fun and always rhythmically engaging.

Ʌ (say: ARC) is traveling up from Providence, bringing his beautiful doom in tow. Debut ATHLETE (AMDISCS) is vast and mysterious, built on a sturdy foundation of Nyquil-doused rhythms and haunting vocals. Never before has a vocoder sounded so menacing. If the community at Drowned in Sound calls this witch-house then I think I like witch-house.

Teenage Reverb will play their first live show this evening. Already two releases deep this summer with Isolation Tape Night (Orchid Tapes) and Summit Demos (AMDISCS), the tracks sound like a gumbo of the season. Sure it’s messy, but it’s strangely cohesive… no wonder folks like Dont Die Wondering, Blalock’s, and Ice-Nine are writing such nice things about them.
